The Name of My Studio
I chose the name Sole Glass for my studio, Sole (pronounced So-lay) which is the Italian word for sun, and sunlight is what brings stained glass artwork to life. While I'm not Italian, on a trip to Italy 2 years ago, I was so taken by all of the beautiful artistry that was put into even the most mundane of objects for instance, the artisanal details in the drinking fountain tucked into a shady nook in the Boboli Gardens are just stunning. So to me, the thought of Italy equates to beauty. To honor the place where everyday life is beauty and to the source that sustains that life, I choose Sole Glass Studio.
I have explored several artistic mediums over the years and none have stirred the passions that stained glass designs have. My husband and I gave a stained glass piece purchased in a gallery to friend, and I was compelled to study and explore the art of stained glass myself. On the completion of my first piece, which was no piece of art, I was hooked!
I take much of my inspiration from many areas of life and strive to design stained glass pieces that convey those feelings. My designs spring from nature, architecture, travels or the specific, or the not so specific desires of a client. My personal favorite pieces tend to come from working with a client on a custom piece that has a unique and special meaning to them. Bringing their vision of art to realization in the medium of stained glass.
Stained glass transforms natural light into moving, dancing, ever-changing art. With every hour, the glass is lit in a unique way, and the streaming colors from the glass onto surfaces become interesting and art in its own right.
